tiptap set out to simplify charitable giving with standalone, contactless donation units. As a Design Manager at TribalScale, I led the creation of a dashboard experience that gave charities full control over their campaigns. Our goal was to design a platform as intuitive as the tap-to-pay devices themselves—giving organizations the tools to track, optimize, and scale their impact.
Context
We started by interviewing multiple organizations using the tiptap device in the field. Their priorities were clear: real-time visibility, campaign tracking, and flexible admin access. We mapped every feature around those needs. Instead of building a bloated admin panel, we focused on a slim, insight-driven interface designed for quick answers, not deep configuration.
Design sprints were short and focused. We built wireframes, tested them with charity teams, and iterated based on their input. From fundraising coordinators to national directors, every stakeholder had a voice in the product’s shape. The UI focused on dashboards and cards that displayed goals, tap counts, locations, and payment totals with zero clutter.
To support that, we worked closely with engineers to simplify the data layer and optimize performance. Metrics updated in near real time, with fallback strategies to support low-connectivity environments. Every interaction, from filtering campaigns to drilling into unit performance, was optimized for clarity and action.
We also spent time on visual tone. The dashboard needed to feel optimistic and credible without being flashy. Colors, spacing, and typography were selected to reflect trust and warmth, while maintaining strong data legibility.
Challenges
The final dashboard brought transparency and control to a part of the giving process that was previously invisible. Charities could now track tap counts, payments, and engagement patterns at a glance, from any device. They could respond faster, deploy smarter, and justify future campaigns with confidence. tiptap’s backend and dashboard design turned passive giving into an active, data-informed experience. By putting real-time insights in the hands of every organization, we helped reshape how charities grow their impact in a cashless world.
Solution
We designed a brand that felt smart, calm, and quietly confident. The UI embraced a light, fluid system that guided users without overwhelming them. Micro-interactions and conversational copy brought personality into every screen. From onboarding to long-term use, the app became less about tasks and more about flow.
